37Signals the next Google?

Posted January 4, 2006 by

From my understanding of Jason and all of the folks over at 37Signals their goal is to make software that enhances peoples productivity and helps solves problems that they’ve encountered. Maybe that means that 37signals is the new Google. But maybe that just means that they will be 37Signals and make that the company that exemplifies the ideals that they hold dear to them.

37Signals says that companies should be grown. While I know that the likes of Google, Dell, and Apple, all grew from innovation and passion (37Signals seems to definitely have both of those), they’ve also mentioned that enterprise is the new legacy so 37Signals will have to balance the demands and desires of it’s users with their own intuition and vision for their company and products. It seems to me that they are more than capable of walking that line and having the confidence in themselves and their products to withstand fads, and trends that are not founded in solid business practices.

I currently use their products Basecamp, and Backpack and am very much looking forward to their new software Campfire, and Sunrise. So 37Signals might be the next Google, but maybe we should just let them be themselves. Harold Miner never really did turn out to be Baby Jordan. So probably best to keep ridiculous comparisons at a minimum

I agree 37 signals is a huge player. But I really like Near-Time.net as well. It’s like Basecamp, but with an awesome UI. Also, JotSpot has revamped their service this week. What do you think of those?

Randall, until now, I haven’t heard of Near-Time. It looks pretty similar to Basecamp. The UI seems to mirror Basecamp’s as well. Have you used both? What have you noticed are differences/similarities between the two? I have seen JotSpot before, and it looks like a pretty useful tool. Do you see either as direct competitors to the 37Signals offerings or do you think they’re functionally different?
